Look Out for the Signs and Symptoms of Glaucoma

glaucomaHave your eyes been hurting you lately? Have you noticed strange blind spots in the sides of your eyes? If you said, “Yes,” then that is cause for concern. You may have glaucoma. Below, we list common symptoms of glaucoma that you should know.

4 Red Flags That You May Have Glaucoma

If you have one or more of the following symptoms, you should see an eye doctor at your earliest convenience.

Sickness

It is common for people who are developing glaucoma to complain about feeling sick. You may have nausea and vomiting. If you cannot explain your nausea and vomiting with pregnancy, food poisoning, or the flu, then it may be due to glaucoma.

Headache

You’ll develop glaucoma when there is intense pressure on the eyes’ optic nerves or your eyes drainage system cannot drain fluid properly. Thus, people with glaucoma frequently mention that they get headaches or migraines. The headaches or migraines are caused by the eye pressure. Similarly, you may experience eye pain for the same reason.

Blurred Vision

Blurred vision that does not go away after cleaning your eyes is a telltale sign of glaucoma or another eye disorder. If you often feel as though you need more light to see or that a room is too dim, you may have glaucoma. Additionally, having blind spots or blurry vision on only parts of your eyes (such as your peripheral) is another indicator of glaucoma.

“Halos”

Seeing halos or circles of light around light sources, such as streetlight bulbs or tail lights, are a unique symptom of glaucoma. This is, perhaps, one of the most unusual signs and it is specific to glaucoma. Therefore, if you’re experiencing this condition, it is time to see an ophthalmologist.
